The Standing Committee advises the Ministry of textiles to cancel the polyester staple fiber (PSF).

Anti-dumping duty

The Committee urged the Ministry of textiles to take necessary actions to prevent speculators from hoarding cotton and cotton yarns.

The Standing Committee also recommended that the Ministry of textiles, by law, prevent speculators from hoarding raw cotton and cotton yarns, so as not to affect the development of the textile industry.

Polyester staple fiber is the most important and widely used in the world.

One of its applications is more than cotton.

Earlier, there were 5 polyester staple production plants in Pakistan, with an integrated production capacity of 639000 tons.

However, the closure of DeVaan Salman (Dewan Salman) plant with a capacity of 241000 tons led to a decline in manufacturing capacity in Pakistan.

At present, the remaining 4 plants have an integrated production capacity of 400000 tons.

After detailed analysis, the national customs and Tariff Commission put forward a new tax structure for these manufacturing plants.

The PTA factory's new tax should be 4%, while the polyester staple fiber factory's new tax should be 7%.

The Ministry of textiles has made recommendations after discussions with all parties concerned. The new tax for the PTA plant should be 3%, and the new tax on the polyester staple mill should be 6%.

The textile department convened a meeting of several polyester staple manufacturers to find out the factors that contributed to the price increase.

On the other hand, the polyester staple industry believes that domestic prices should be the same as international prices. Polyester staple users believe that the implementation of anti-dumping measures against several Chinese companies has led to the distortion of the price of Pakistan polyester staple fiber.

Now, manufacturers are worried about the result of levying anti-dumping duties.
