In the early 90s of last century, there were many warm clothing products in China. Professor Zhang Xingxiang, who teaches at the Institute of materials, said that it is not enough to keep warm in clothing. In our real life, there is a great difference in temperature between indoor and outdoor. Especially in winter, it is very warm to wear warm clothing outside, but when it comes to a heated room, it is not easy to get rid of it. What can we do?

If we can develop an intelligent thermal insulation material, when the ambient temperature is low, we can automatically adjust the temperature inside the clothes, and when the ambient temperature rises, we can automatically lower the temperature inside the clothes, so that the temperature in the clothing is in a comfortable range and convenient to wear. How good is that?

This word is very strange to the layman, but Han Na, a teacher of the Institute of materials, explained very plainly to reporters: the so-called "phase change material" is that the material itself can absorb and release heat, and in the process of endothermic and exothermic, the material itself will "change".


The pformation process is very interesting. The material is solid. When the outside temperature is higher than 30 degrees, the material begins to absorb the external heat. It changes from solid state to liquid state. At the same time, the heat is absorbed and stored by the material. At this time, the temperature of the clothing will be reduced, and the people who wear clothes will not feel hot.

And when people walk outside the cold weather in winter, when the outside temperature is below 20 degrees, the material starts to heat up, and the material itself will change from the liquid to the solid state, and the heat released will pass to the human body through the clothes itself. It will naturally feel warmer than wearing the same ordinary clothes.


According to scientific tests, the body feels the most comfortable skin temperature at 33.4 degrees Celsius.

If the temperature difference between the skin temperature of any part of the body and the most comfortable skin temperature ranges from 1.5 degrees to 3 degrees Celsius, the human body will feel cold, but if the temperature difference exceeds 4.5 degrees, the body will feel cold or hot.

The clothing made of this special material can ensure that the temperature difference is controlled at around 3 degrees, so that the people wearing it will feel very comfortable.

In fact, the anxiety of our laymen has long been thought of by professional researchers.

In the early 90s of the last century, Professor Zhang Xingxiang's team began to study how to make clothes warm and to "wet" the clothes after the material became liquid.

After unremitting efforts, they developed something called "microcapsule".

Everyone has seen capsules, but Professor Zhang's capsule is much smaller than the capsule they usually eat, and the diameter is only one micron.

The texture of the capsule is a resin polymer. It is tough. No matter whether it is heated or cooled down to the outside, it will not break down to a certain extent. With the protection of the polymer capsule coat, there is no need to worry about the phase change material flowing into liquid.


With the protection layer, the next thing to do is to mix thousands of small "microcapsules" into ordinary clothing fibers, and make them into thermoregulation fibers. With this kind of fabric woven into fabrics, then tailored to make clothes, it is called warm clothing.

In addition to the "microcapsule" technology, Professor Han Na's research team has developed a technology called "phase change material composite textile". At present, the technology does not need to make phase change materials into "microcapsules". Instead, it starts with "spinning hands" in spinning technology: a thin core of silk thread has a core layer, and the core layer is wrapped with "phase change material", while the core layer is a common fabric fiber. This way not only reduces the production process of "microcapsule", improves the production efficiency, but also reduces the cost, so that the temperature adjustment clothing can become affordable clothes for the ordinary people. Speaking of the application of temperature regulating materials, it is indeed a promising prospect. It can be blended with cotton, linen, wool, silk and other materials. Now it has been successfully applied to special manufacturing fields such as spacesuit, thermal insulation materials for fire-fighting clothes.

In addition, it can also be applied to the manufacture of infrared camouflage clothing, and the temperature on the surface of clothes can be reduced to the extent that infrared instruments can not perceive it. Therefore, soldiers wearing this camouflage dress can become invisible people invisible to the instrument.

In terms of civilian clothing, thermoregulation materials can also be applied to many fields, such as temperature adjustment lining for high-grade clothing, underwear, hat, gloves, etc.

At first glance, there is no difference between the coat and the ordinary coat sold in the exclusive store. The fabrics and materials used are ordinary acrylic materials, but do not belittle this coat. In fact, its "mystery" is hidden in the interlayer.


The journalist squeezed the corner of the clothes with his hand and carefully felt the difference between the stuffing inside and the ordinary "silk cotton filler". The interlayer of the thermoregulation jacket was not thick, and felt that the temperature regulating material was not much. However, no matter how the reporter's hands felt, he felt that the interlayer was very soft and seemed to be unable to touch any "capsule" shape.


Seeing the reporter's serious look, Han Na asked with a smile: "how can you feel such a small temperature regulating capsule with your hands?"


After such a reminder, the reporter suddenly realized that the diameter of the microcapsule was only one micron, which could be seen under the microscope.


Next is the try on, Han Na said, the manufacturers use their tempering technology to make the clothes have three sizes, corresponding to 170 cm, 180 cm and 185 cm adults.

The reporter's height is only 160 centimeters, the three sizes are large, so they can only try a small size.


Although the clothes are a little big, the reporter thinks he is very lucky, because "the weather is beautiful". When the reporters try on clothes, the weather is cloudy and windy.
