The 2011 China Private Wealth Report shows that the number of people with high net worth who can invest more than ten million of assets is 500 thousand, and the average investment assets of each person are about 30 million yuan, holding a total of 15 trillion yuan of investable assets.


In the direction of investment, this group of people directly declined to invest in domestic houses, while their enthusiasm for gold, real estate trusts and private equity investment rose. In 2010, net gold investment increased by 80% over 2009.


Yesterday (April 20th), China Merchants Bank and Bain management consultants jointly launched the "2011 China Private Wealth Report".

The report shows that the investment enthusiasm of the mainland's high net worth people who purchase more than ten million of their investment in domestic direct investment in domestic houses has declined, while the enthusiasm for gold, real estate trusts and private equity investment has increased. In 2010, Huang Jinjing investment increased by 80% compared to 2009.

According to the report, in 2010, the number of Chinese high net worth individuals with more than ten million RMB yuan in investment assets amounted to 500 thousand, with an average investment of about 30 million yuan per capita and a total investment of 15 trillion RMB.

It is estimated that in 2011, the number of the group will reach 590 thousand, and the scale of the investable assets will reach 18 trillion yuan.


In 2010, the total scale of investable assets held by individuals in China reached 62 trillion yuan, representing an increase of about 19% over the end of 2009.


Professional personage is increasing


The report shows that the composition of China's high net worth population is still dominated by business owners, but its share has dropped to 61% from 70% in 2009. Professional managers, business executives and professionals have been growing rapidly in the past two years, and the proportion has increased from 17% in 2009 to 17%, exceeding that of professional investors in second.


Professional investors maintained a similar growth rate with high net worth people, with a steady increase of around 13%.


Finally, there are a few other high net worth people who are full-time wives, retirees, entertainment stars and sports stars. Their proportion has increased slightly, but it is still below 10%.


It is estimated that the total scale of personal investment assets in China will reach 72 trillion yuan in 2011, an increase of 16% over the same period last year. China's high net worth population will reach 590 thousand, an increase of 16% over the same period last year. The high net worth population will have a wealth of 18 trillion yuan, an increase of 18% over the same period last year.

In terms of the investment direction of the rich, in the beginning of 2009, the traditional investment categories represented by cash and deposits, stocks, real estate and funds accounted for about 80%. By 2011, the proportion of the four types of assets dropped to 70%.


In recent two years, real estate trust, sunshine private placement, gold investment, private equity investment and other categories of investment have seen blowout growth among the rich.

At the end of 2010, net gold investment increased by about 80% compared to 2009.

The year-end balance of private equity products in 2010 was 30% faster than that in 2009.

Research shows that over 60% of high net worth people tend to reduce or maintain investment in the real estate sector.

The proportion of investment real estate in the net asset allocation of high net worth decreased from 17.9% in early 2009 to 13.7% in early 2011.

More than 90% of respondents said they would not increase investment in the real estate market in the next 1~2 years, while half of the high net worth individuals indicated that they would gradually withdraw funds from the real estate market.


About 40% of respondents said they would "buy shops in the next 1~2" or participate in investment through real estate trusts and real estate funds.

This shows that the enthusiasm of high net worth people to invest directly in domestic housing has declined, and the investment mode has shifted to shops and indirect investments.

The rich are more willing to borrow money.


Despite the wealth of the rich, the demand for financing is rising.

The survey found that the demand for personal financing accounted for nearly 70%, an increase of nearly 20 percentage points from 2009, indicating that more and more high net worth people want banks or financial institutions to provide personal financing for capital turnover and increase the leverage of investment.


The demand for corporate financing increased by 10 percentage points over 2009, exceeding 40%.

Another close to 30% of high net worth people hope that wealth management institutions will provide capital market financing services, such as securities lending and margin trading services, raise investment leverage and obtain high returns. Compared to 2009, the proportion of capital market financing services needs increased by more than 5 percentage points.


At the same time, a small number of high net worth individuals, especially over 100 million of the super high net worth individuals, hope that the wealth management institution can provide special purpose financing services, such as financing for yachts and aircraft.


Methods of investigation:


The questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews were combined to complete the survey. More than 2600 valid questionnaires and more than 100 in-depth interviews were completed. The respondents were distributed in 37 main cities all over the country. Respondents included private banking customers, other high net worth people, clients, experts and industry experts, and adopted cluster analysis and other statistical methods.
