Cotton Production In Pakistan Has Fallen To Its Lowest Level In 35 Years

According to a report released by Pakistan cotton textile merchants association, the cotton production in Pakistan has decreased by 41.27% compared with the same period last year. It is estimated that the national cotton production in Pakistan this year is 5.5 million bales, which is the lowest level in 35 years. It is necessary to import about 7 million bales of cotton to meet the needs of the local cotton industry. The president of the cotton growers association of Pakistan stressed that the government should take immediate measures to ensure the provision of high-quality seeds and pesticides, and introduce new cotton planting techniques to increase cotton production. In addition, due to the decline in local production, the dependence on imported cotton will increase. Textile exporters appeal to the government to reduce the import tariff on cotton yarn to reduce the burden on the textile industry.
