Economic Observation: The Growth Of Global Cotton Producing Areas And The Shipment Hit An Annual High
According to the report of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), on December 15-21, 2023, the contracted export volume of American upland cotton in 2023/24 will be 83967 tons, significantly increasing from the average level of the previous week and the previous four weeks. The main buyers are China (61562 tons, including 2588 tons cancelled), Vietnam (8830 tons, including 23 tons re exported from South Korea), Mexico (3065 tons, including 23 tons cancelled), Turkey (2588 tons) Malaysia (1884 tons), Honduras (409 tons) and South Korea (23 tons) cancelled the contract.
In 2023/24, the export shipment volume of American upland cotton reached 52437 tons, a new sales year high, 4% higher than the previous week and 54% higher than the average level of the previous four weeks. It was mainly shipped to China (32938 tons), Vietnam (2928 tons), Pakistan (2315 tons), Indonesia (220 tons) and Bangladesh (1793 tons).
The contracted export volume of American upland cotton in 2024/25 is 590 tons, and the main buyer is Mexico.
On December 15-21, 2023, the contracted export volume of American Pima cotton in 2023/24 will be 908 tons, down 26% from the previous week and 12% from the average level of the previous four weeks. The main buyers are China (409 tons), Colombia (136 tons), Thailand (136 tons), India (114 tons) and Japan (45 tons).
In 2023/24, the export shipment volume of American Pima cotton will be 795 tons, down 36% from the previous week and 62% from the average level of the previous four weeks, mainly to China (386 tons), India (227 tons), Thailand (91 tons), Peru (68 tons) and Japan (23 tons).
