Cotton Picking

According to the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), at the end of the 2024 presidential election in the United States, African Americans in many places in the United States said that they had received racist messages saying that they were "selected" and needed to "go to the nearest plantation to pick cotton". According to reports, Mon è t from Atlanta Miller) received a short message from an unknown phone number on the 6th local time. The message said, "You have been selected to go to the nearest plantation to pick up cotton. A brown van will pick you up and be ready to be searched after entering the plantation."

Miller, 29, was shocked and shared the message on social media. She later learned that some of her friends had received similar messages. In an interview, she said, "This is a threat strategy". In the current atmosphere, she was afraid that this "may just be the beginning of racial attacks".

Domonique from the University of Southern California Valles) and his friends also received a text message and filed a complaint with the FBI. Valles also said, "I feel unsafe on campus". He believed that the school also needs to take action to support people from the African American community.

NBC confirmed that African Americans from many parts of the country have received similar messages, including students from Ohio State University, Clemson University of South Carolina, the University of Southern California and Missouri State University.

In response, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that it had learned about the relevant situation and had contacted the US Department of Justice, and encouraged those who received text messages to report to local law enforcement authorities. The Federal Communications Commission said in a statement that "it is conducting an investigation with federal and state law enforcement agencies".

Trump's campaign team also condemned this. "If we can find the source of these ugly information, we will obviously take legal action to prevent it," the statement said

According to the report, it is not clear who sent these messages and the motive behind them, nor how the culprits obtained the phone numbers of a large number of African Americans.
