The People'S Republic Of Bangladesh; Spin

According to the Daily Star of Bangladesh on January 16, many clothing retailers and brands (such as H&M) prefer the reuse and recycling of clothing due to environmental considerations, but Bangladesh textile mills are facing a shortage of waste cotton and textile waste.

Bangladesh is the second largest garment producer in the world, with a large amount of cotton textile wastes, but these wastes are usually dumped into landfills, burned, exported or recycled into low-quality fabrics. With the increase of global demand for recycled yarns and fabrics and the high purchase price abroad, most of Bangladesh's textile waste is shipped abroad rather than sold in the local market. In the second half of last year, Bangladesh textile waste shipments increased by 49.67% year-on-year to 153.38 million US dollars. This forces textile mills to buy recycled yarn from the international market, which means that local manufacturers have to pay more for imported goods already in place locally. If local recycling is realized, the import volume may be reduced by about 15%, saving $500 million annually.
